Toyota produced two distinct versions of the 1994 Supra. One featured a turbocharged engine offering impressive power and performance. The normally aspirated variant was among the most accomplished and affordable Grand Tourers of the last thirty years. This Supra falls into the second category, although its combination of paint, trim, and wheels gives it a sense of presence it would not have possessed when it rolled off the line. Toyota’s Fourth Generation Supra hit showroom floors in 1993, remaining in production until 2002. Its predecessor was often criticized for its high curb weight, and Toyota changed some production techniques and materials to shave over 100lbs from a car that was also marginally shorter. My research indicates that this Supra emerged from the factory in April 1994, a month when Toyota produced 960 of these classics. The Trim Tag for this Supra confirms it rolled off the line wearing Alpine Silver Metallic paint, which would have given the car a classy and subtle look. However, it has undergone a color change to Black, and when combined with the recently fitted 18″ color-matched wheels, the Supra now has a genuine sense of presence it would have previously lacked. The paint has a depth of color and shine that you could almost walk into, reflecting its surroundings like a mirror. The close-up shots reveal minor chips on the front bumper, but the overall impression is that this Toyota could cause a few stiff necks as bystanders swing their heads to get a better look! The panels are laser-straight, and the gaps are as tight and consistent as we typically expect from Toyota products. The plastic is free from cracks and deterioration, and the flawless tinted glass adds a further sinister touch to this car’s appearance. The only fault the current owner notes is deterioration of the headlight bezel. He spent a cool $1,100 on a new set of lights from Toyota. He hasn’t had the chance to fit them but includes them as part of the deal.
Powering this Supra is the company’s 2,997cc 2JZ-GE six-cylinder engine, featuring sequential fuel injection and twenty-four valves. It sends 220hp and 210 ft/lbs of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Toyota equipped the Supra with double wishbone suspension on all corners, with the four-wheel disc brakes ensuring this classic handles and stops as well as it goes. The company specified relatively tall gearing, giving it very long legs. It can effortlessly cover enormous distances, making it an excellent Grand Tourer. The news for potential buyers is nothing but good because this Supra is a turnkey proposition. The owner recently performed a service, and the tires are new. It runs and drives perfectly, making flying in and building a relationship with the Toyota as you drive it home a tempting idea.
If you ever questioned this Supra’s Grand Touring credentials, one look at its interior should eliminate all doubts. The seats are wrapped in supple black leather, with most of the remaining interior surfaces carrying the same shade. The pale Gray carpet provides a striking contrast, and the lack of marks and stains is a hallmark of a classic that has been treated respectfully. The leather is free from wear, even on the prone outer edges of the beautifully supportive seats. The dash is spotless, the console looks virtually perfect, and there are no signs of broken or crumbling plastic. However, there is more to this interior than good looks because it is loaded with safety and comfort features. These include a driver’s airbag, climate-control air conditioning, a state-of-the-art Pioneer stereo, cruise control, a leather-wrapped tilt wheel, and power operation for the windows, locks, and mirrors. There is one further consideration with vehicles of this type: security. They can be a prime target for thieves, but the professionally installed alarm system, which cost the owner $800, can be operated from two key fobs or a smartphone. It provides vehicle tracking and notifications if someone is interfering with the car in any way. That’s not bad insurance for an investment of this type.

Toyota spent decades developing a reputation for producing cars that are almost bulletproof. Toyota’s mechanical components are among the most robust ever made, and the Supra received many of those items under its skin.
